He was born in Tallahassee, Florida, March 16, 1941, to George Wastine “Buck” Wester, and Doris Lillian Dean Wester. Gene graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee.
He spent his entire distinguished career working in the Information Technology field. He was a pioneer in the industry, and was responsible for early design and implementation of software, including an early Data Base Management System and Law Enforcement applications for Records Management and Computer Assisted Dispatch. Starting with the State of Florida, he moved on to the Planning Research Corporation (PRC) and other national companies on the leading edge of computer software technology, such as Ford Aerospace and Space Systems Loral. Gene was also a “Mountain Man” at heart and loved to participate in reenactment “rendezvous” celebrations. He built his own black powder weapons and fashioned his leather garb true to the period. He was an excellent shot, well versed in the lifestyle he adored, and was a stickler for historical accuracy.
